James' Monthly Duathlon/Triathlon
Stuart and James are gearing up for a demanding Half Ironman challenge to raise funds for the Grace O’Malley-Kumar Foundation. This event, which includes a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride through mountainous terrain, and a 13.1-mile run, represents not only a physical challenge but also a deeply personal mission for both.
The father-son duo are driven by their desire to keep Grace’s legacy alive. Stuart, now in his 50s, is no stranger to pushing himself, but this challenge holds special significance, as it represents his family’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Foundation. James, just 20 years old, has also taken on an additional commitment by participating in monthly duathlons and triathlons leading up to an Olympic triathlon by the end of the year.
This Half Ironman is more than just a test of endurance for Stuart and James; it’s a meaningful opportunity to come together for a cause that continues to make a positive difference in the lives of young people. As the event approaches, supporters are encouraged to contribute to the Foundation and cheer them on as they take on this inspiring challenge.
On the 27th of Novemeber you can follow updates on the official Grace O’Malley-Kumar instagram for updates about how they are doing!
Best of luck to both of you!
A quote from James
“I knew Grace for 16 years of my life, since nursery. We lived opposite each other, shared school runs, and holidayed as families together. She was one of my best friends. Grace always had a big impact on my life, always helping and giving me advice whenever I needed it. She was also such a clever girl, acing every exam and test she ever sat. She was always there for me as was I for her, she would always give me the best advice. Her smile was so contagious it would light up a whole room. She was beautiful inside and out. I miss her so so much.
So this year, to help raise money for the strong values Grace stood for and cared about, it’s the least I could do. I will be competing in a duathlon/ triathlon every single month to lead up to competing in an Olympic triathlon by the end of this year. Any donations would be greatly appreciated not only by me but by Sanjoy, Sinead and James. It would mean so much to all of us. Grace once wrote in a card for me when I went to a new school, ‘never forget about me, as I’ll never forget about you’ Grace, I’ll never forget you, ever. This is for you Grace ❤”
