A bit about June 1st
On Sunday 1st June 2025, the rumble of engines will echo through Harlow’s River Way Industrial Estate as motorcyclists from across the UK converge for a special cause the Grace O’Malley-Kumar Memorial Motorbike Meet.
Now, in its second year, the event is fast becoming a fixture in the calendar of the biking community and beyond. Organised by Metropolitan Police officer and close family friend Dave Merry, this ride-out is not your average Sunday meet. It’s a gathering of solidarity, remembrance, and action centred on raising funds for the Grace O’Malley-Kumar Foundation.
The day promises more than just chrome and horsepower. From 11:00 AM, ITS Tools will host a lively community celebration, with food and drink vendors, a Prosecco bar, ice cream, and classic fish and chips all generously donating their profits to the Foundation. As the engines cool, attendees will have the chance to connect, share stories, and reflect on what unites them: a shared desire to honour a life that continues to inspire.
This mix of community energy, shared purpose, and the unmistakable hum of two wheels gives the event its power. While many participants ride in memory, there’s no sombre tone. The atmosphere is more festival than funeral; it’s about legacy in motion, about turning grief into generosity, and passion into purpose.
Last year’s inaugural ride saw over 350 bikers journey from North Weald Airfield to Newark Showground, culminating in a powerful tribute as Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes unveiled a liveried motorcycle named in Grace’s honour. That momentum has only grown, with riders returning and new supporters joining the ranks, many drawn by the Foundation’s mission and the grassroots spirit that surrounds this gathering.
Looking at the event
At the heart of it all lies a simple idea: that people, united by cause, can create something meaningful together. Whether it’s through donations, shared stories, or simply showing up, every contribution becomes part of a wider movement one that supports youth sport, medical education, and community resilience.
